About this Role:

As the HR Manager at Hullo, you’ll be instrumental in shaping our HR function. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and can balance traditional HR responsibilities with the unique demands of a startup. You’ll act as a key contributor in recruitment, employee and labor relations, HR operations, and monitor crew scheduling, ensuring compliance with the Collective Agreement and relevant marine and employment regulations. In this high-growth environment, you’ll play a vital role in building our company culture and supporting a diverse team that delivers safe and reliable transportation services.

Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
o   Manage the recruitment process, focusing on sourcing talent with the skills and adaptability required in the marine industry
o   Oversee onboarding processes that support new hires in transitioning smoothly into their roles, and understanding company culture and operational expectations

·Employee Relations
o   Promote a positive and collaborative workplace culture, fostering engagement and open communication
o   Manage and resolve employee concerns and conflicts, leading investigations and conflict resolution aligned with company policies, collective agreement and legal standards

Labor Relations & Collective Agreement
o   Act as a point of contact for union representatives, ensuring adherence to the Collective Agreement
o   Support labor negotiations and handle grievance processes, bringing expertise in labor relations and an understanding of the demands of a startup in the marine industry

 HR Operations
o   Manage core HR functions, including but not limited to vacation requests, benefits administration, and policy compliance
o   Ensure compliance with relevant BC employment legislation, such as BC Employment Standards Act (E.S.A.), Labor Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and any applicable maritime regulations including MPR,SMS & IMO.  

This role will take part in a on-call rotation for out of office hours - this will be supplemented with a days in lieu.

Requirements:
·      Minimum of 5 years of HR experience, ideally within a unionized or shift-work environment
·      Strong knowledge of labor relations and experience working within a Collective Agreement framework
·      Proven experience managing conflict, conducting investigations, and resolving workplace issues
·      Familiarity & Experience with BC E.S.A., Labor Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act)
·      Ability to work within a startup environment

Preferred but not required:
·      CPHR designation
·      Marine industry experience

Compensation

$70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
